There’s a new kid on the block. Bourbon Raw Kentucky Kitchen & Raw Bar opened its doors to the public in September 2018. Tucked in amidst a stream of bars and restaurants on Washington Street, Bourbon Raw is the newest addition to the bustling South Norwalk dining scene.

The “Bourbon” in the name Bourbon Raw is inspired by the Prohibition Era and “Raw” pays homage to Norwalk having a rich history as an oyster town. Much of the artwork on the walls reflects on these themes with pictures of confiscated bourbon barrels and fishing boats. Bourbon is not just in the name and the décor, but also on their extensive menu. Check out their bourbon selection with 90 bourbons to choose from served on the rocks, neat or select a few to taste in a bourbon flight. Fresh oysters are delivered daily in addition to other shellfish showcased in the raw bar offering.

Executive Chef, Ramon Ramos brings a Southern style menu combining comfort food with seafood influences.

Appetizers

Cheese Board: Artisanal gorgonzola, whipped ricotta, local camembert served with bourbon-honey and warm bread

Steamed Mussels: Spanish chorizo, roasted garlic, Aleppo peppers, herbs and white wine. Juicy, plump mussels combine with ingredients to produce a spicy mélange of flavors.

Wild Mushroom Flatbread: Pearl onion spread, wild mushrooms, aged white cheddar, baby arugula, honey-truffle drizzle on a crispy pita crust. The pita crust is an interesting alternative to traditional flatbread.

Entrees

Pan Roasted Berkshire Pork Chop: Sweet potato spaetzel, Benton’s country ham, root vegetables, apple-mustard relish, bourbon-honey glaze. The juicy pork chop is perfectly cooked in this autumn inspired creation.

Peppercorn Crusted NY Sirloin: Cast iron skillet, rosemary fries, garlicky creamed spinach, onion confit, bordelaise reduction. The tender steak pairs well with the flavors to create a satisfying dish.

House made Cavatelli: Wild mushrooms, garlic confit, pearl onion parmesan, white truffle butter with shrimp. The homemade pasta and rich savory sauce makes this dish a must order.

Randy Castillo, manager believes that Bourbon Raw provides a nice, casual dining atmosphere that focuses on great service. “The food will sell itself, but the service keeps customers coming back. Castillo feels that all the surrounding restaurants have something to offer. “We distinguish ourselves with a different ambiance. Everyone has to find their own niche.”
