Mai-Kai has been a Fort Lauderdale favorite since 1956. It is centrally located at 3599 North Federal Highway.  The Mai-Kai experience appeals to anyone from a local resident or tourist to couples and families.  The restaurant is truly interactive. Wander through the lush gardens and view the serene waterfalls.  Look at the artifacts and tiki style décor. Peek into the old style kitchen to see how food is prepared over an open flame.  Each area in the dining room is named after a different Polynesian island.

When you stay for the show, the host will explain the significance of each island.  Shows are performed daily at 8pm.  The performance lasts approximately fifty minutes and includes: exciting Polynesian dancers, colorful costumes, drums, singing and fire twirling.  During the show, dancers choose audience members to join them onstage in an impromptu lesson.  A portion of the show is dedicated to honoring special events in the lives of the audience members.  The Hawaiian Wedding Song is sung for those celebrating an anniversary or recent engagement.  Birthday announcements are made while servers deliver a piece of a cake with a sparkler to the tables.  Reservations are recommended on weekends because the dining room fills up.

Choose from fifty specialty tropical rum based drinks.  Drinks are illustrated with colorful photos and arranged in order by strength.  Try two of the most popular drinks, the Barrel of Rum and the Mai Tai mixed with fresh squeezed juice and international rums.  Happy hour is daily from 4-7pm.  Enjoy half price drinks and appetizers in the bar area.  On Wednesday, in addition to the happy hour specials, sample from the complimentary sushi buffet.

The menu is comprised of steaks, seafood and Asian cuisine.  Before the show, order from the Bali Hai menu.  For just forty-five dollars per person, enjoy your choice of appetizer, entrée and dessert while watching the performance.  Begin your feast with the PuPu Platter, an assortment of bite sized treats like: Shanghai chicken, egg roll, crab Rangoon and Tahitian cheese tangs.  In between courses, cleanse your hands with warm towels.  Try the Roasted Duck served with garlic mashed potatoes and red wine sauce. The duck is well seasoned, crispy on the outside and moist inside.  Another house specialty is the BBQ Pork Tenderloin, a well marinated tender cut of pork served with mashed potatoes. Finish your meal with the Tiramisu, creamy mascarpone cheese with angel fingers and mocha.

Mai-Kai is a spectacularly exciting experience that seduces your senses. If you can’t afford a trip to the Polynesian islands, visit Mai-Kai for a taste of the tropics in your backyard.
